At a powwow held at Conestoga College on February 22, Bridget Brown, the Women’s Representative on the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Grand River Métis Council was recognized for her volunteer work with the college’s Aboriginal Services office. Bridget is a student at the college, enrolled in the Community and Criminal Justice program.
The Aboriginal Services office has experienced an increase in students using their services, and Bridget has been involved in preparing a proposal to the college for a larger office space.
Bridget was also a recipient of an Aboriginal and Post-Secondary Education and Training bursary, which was presented to her by Myeengun Henry, the Aboriginal Services Office Manager.
“Enrolment of Aboriginal students has been increasing at the college, and is expected to continue to increase in the future,” explained Bridget, “Conestoga College offers degree programs as well as diploma programs and has campuses in Brantford, Doon and Waterloo, and we need to get ready for this next generation of Aboriginal youth, which includes those of Métis, Inuit and First Nations ancestry.”
