Ottawa, ON – June 24, 2010 – On behalf of the Métis Nation of Ontario, President Gary Lipinski today expressed his concern and offered the support of the MNO to all Métis citizens and everyone else in Midland and the surrounding area who experienced the tornado which tore through the area Wednesday evening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” President Lipinski said. “I have been in touch with GBMC President Allen Vallee and have offered MNO assistance as required.

One MNO staff member received minor injuries during the storm and although the building that houses the GBMC offices received minor damage, the office itself was not affected. The office will remain closed today, but MNO Health Branch in the area is actively reaching out to clients to ensure they are safe and have everything they need. In the event they are unable to reach clients, they will contact emergency services in the area.

The MNO will continue to monitor the situation and is prepared to provide whatever support may be required to ensure the safety of our citizens,” said President Lipinski, adding, “our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are suffering as a result of yesterday’s dramatic events.”
