MNO Statement to Citizens Regarding Litigation
In the coming days the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) will initiate court proceedings against the actions of Clément Chartier when he was the Métis National Council (MNC) President, as well as actions he has taken in the name of the MNC since the expiry of his term almost a year ago.
We want you to know that the decision to go to the court was not taken lightly. As we have reported to the MNO Annual General Assembly, during town hall meetings and discussed many times during meetings of the Provisional Council of the MNO (PCMNO) we have made every effort to exhaust all other options in order to work to address these matters in an appropriate forum. Based upon recent developments, it has become apparent that we have no other option.
We know that following our court filing, the Chartier/Chartand communications machine, paid for by the millions of dollars the MNC receives, will kick into full gear with further misinformation and spin. These sort of media spectacles embarrass all of us, but some Métis leaders seek and relish this spotlight. The MNO’s leadership does not.
Instead, the MNO has and will continue to rely on information and facts. Please feel free to share and circulate this information to anyone who may have questions about the MNO and its history with the MNC: www.metisnation.org/thefacts.
Attached is a letter that is being sent today out of respect to our fellow Métis Governments and MNC General Assembly members providing them with notice of the upcoming court proceedings.
We will keep our leadership and citizens updated as the litigation advances.
