It is with great sadness that the family of Reginald Elmo Bennett announced his sudden passing on August 18, 2020 in his 67th year.

Son of the late Joseph Bennett and Eveline née Lesage/Micks, Reg was predeceased by brothers Caleb J. Bennett, Lt-Commander ret., Thomas W. Bennett and sisters Joanne and Donna.
Reg is survived by his sister Maudie Foster (Maxie) brothers Arthur (Connie) and Richard Bennett (Jane) as well as his daughter Katrina and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reg was born in Thessalon, ON and raised in Bruce Mines, ON. In his younger years Reg worked in a variety of positions in construction and logging as well as a stretch doing track reconstruction for CN Rail in the western provinces.
He found his niche in life in his early thirties when he accepted an apprenticeship as a meat-cutter and graduated top of his class from George Brown College.
Shortly after graduation he met his wife to be, Karen. Reg and Karen married and relocated to the North Bay area where he worked for several large grocery chains before starting his own business that became quite popular and successful.
His claim to fame was his own version of Italian Sausage. Even after retirement he would receive requests for his sausage — right up to the time of his death.
Reg was a first cousin to Steve Powley. Their mothers were sisters. He was well aware of the struggles the Métis have in establishing Métis rights and their continuing recognition.
Reg was a proud Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen and had been very involved with the North Channel Métis Council — holding various elected positions on Council over approximately 14 years.
His humour and good deeds will be missed not only by his friends, family and the North Channel Métis community, but by all who knew him.
