2023 marks the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the Métis Nation of Ontario and the 20th anniversary of the landmark Métis rights decision in R v. Powley

The year 2023 will mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Métis Nation of Ontario! It also marks 20 years since the landmark victory at the Supreme Court of Canada in the Powley case, that recognized Métis rights within section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982.

In acknowledgement of these auspicious occasions the MNO Education and Training branch is collecting memories and reflections of the past 30 years from MNO citizens to be used in a promotional resource at our 2023 Annual General Assembly.

We invite MNO citizens of all ages to share their memories, in all languages — French, English or Michif — in the form of writings, recordings, pictures and photographs, video or artworks. And by answering the all or some of the following questions:

1. What are some of your most memorable moments or experiences from the last 30 years?
2. Can you share any specific achievements or milestones you’ve witnessed? Are there any particular individuals or leaders within the MNO who have made a lasting impression on you? Why?
3. How will you be celebrating these milestones? How have these milestones impacted you, your family and/or your children’s family? How have you seen the MNO impact the community you live in?
4. What are your hopes and aspirations for the MNO as we embark on the next 30 years?

We invite all ages of participants, Michif, French or English responses, recordings, pictures, and drawings, in order to produce a resource to be distributed at our AGA August 2023. Deadline to submit responses is July 24, 2023. Responses that need to be sent separately, can be sent to wendyo@metisnation.org.

Maarsii for your participation!
