Get help navigating Kindergarten to Grade 12 school setting! The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Education Support Advocacy Program. This program supports identifying and navigating personalized supports for Métis students as they progress along in their learning journey.
Our goal is to improve communication pathways between home and school, increase parental & student understanding of school documentation, increase parental & student advocacy, and bolster confidence and overall wellbeing of Métis students.
The Program is offered virtually, to MNO citizens enrolled in the Ontario Public Education System, who are navigating:
- Attendance
- Suspension/ Expulsion
- Individual Education Plan
- Behaviour Plans
- Safety Plans
- Individual Placement Review Committee Meetings (IPRC)
- Mental health & wellbeing
- Home – School Communication Pathways
- Learning concerns

No. Education Support Advocates will work with families to navigate available school board supports and resources to support achieving education goals. ESAs may also connect families to other MNO funding programs.
Student or parent must be an MNO Citizen, enrolled in Kindergarten – Grade 12 Ontario Public Education System
The student or parent must be an MNO citizen and provide their citizenship number.
Email educationadvocacy@metisnation.org and a team member will connect with you to complete a program intake. You do not need to be referred by another program.
At times, there may be a waitlist to work with an Education Support Advocate. You will be informed if there is a waitlist when you complete an intake for the program.
If there is a waitlist, you can reach out to educationadvocacy@metisnation.org at any time to check in on a timeline or provide an update if your situation changes.
Once a student reaches age 16 years, we require their consent in order to complete an intake/continue services. Should they request that an ESA work directly with a parent/guardian, they can identify that during the intake and consent process.

The ESA program is a client-led program and has no specific time line. Clients will remain in the program as long as they remain eligible (in K- Grade 12 Ontario Public Education Setting) and there are active advocacy goals that are being collaboratively worked towards. A client can request a file closure at any time if they are no longer interested in the service.
Clients that have had their ESA file closed can return to the ESA program when the need arises if they meet the eligibility criteria.
