The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Métis Self-Employment Program. This Program offers participants the skills and support necessary to develop a business plan, start a small business, and sustain their business activities. The Program also provides funds and support to assist clients with mentorship, coaching, and ongoing technical advice. Coaching that is offered through the Program will be tailored to the individual’s needs and can include business plan development, accounting, marketing, computer skills, and access to self-employment support services. In order to be eligible for this Program applicants must be Métis individuals who are either unemployed, under-employed, or whose employment is at risk due to labour market changes, insufficient employment skills, or certification.
Support is available for new businesses and existing businesses that are struggling to remain viable. For existing businesses support and training can be provided to help to ensure the viability of the business by helping with marketing, technology, and training costs. Businesses can be sole proprietorship or partnerships. In the case of a partnership the applicant must own at least 50% of the business and should be able to make a minimum 25% investment in the business in either cash or equity. During the Program participants will be required to submit monthly progress reports and financial information.
