The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Métis Youth Program (MYP). The Program is designed to provide support to unemployed youth between the ages of 15 and 30 through a number of program options which are available through individual client purchase or as community based programming. The Program gives Métis youth the opportunity to explore and secure jobs in emerging and growing industries and provide them with the skills required to support Canada’s economic growth and successfully begin their careers and working lives.
In order to qualify for this Program participants must be Métis individuals between 15 to 30 years of age who are normally out of school. The Program fosters a variety of school-to-work transition models which provide a combination of appropriate on-the-job and in-class training. This training addresses both job specific and basic employability skills. Participants will receive allowances based on the prevailing wage rate for their specific kind of work in their current location. Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (Workers’ Compensation or equivalent) insurance coverage will be provided by the employer for participants in accordance with and where required by provincial regulations.
The Métis Youth Program has three sub-categories:
- The MYP Internship Program. This Program supports internships with employers that provide Métis youth with skill enhancement, work experience, and entrepreneurial assistance to help them make a successful transition into the labour market.
- The MYP Community Service Program. This Program supports the development of work opportunities for youth who face barriers to finding employment through participation in community service projects. The goal is to help young people develop the life skills and work experiences necessary to enter the labour market.
- The MYP Labour Market Information Program. This Program supports activities that provide youth with the labour market information they need to make decisions about their post-secondary education and careers.
