Métis Culture Based Economic Development Grant

The MNO is pleased to offer the Métis Culture Based Economic Development Grant. The purpose of this Grant is to support the economic self-determination of Métis individuals in cultural industries and arts and culture related careers. This Grant is for Métis individuals who are seeking to launch an arts or culture related career. In order to qualify applicants must submit a project proposal that demonstrates how the Grant funds will be used towards an arts or culture related activity. The maximum amount of money available through this Grant is $5,000. The funds must be used to assist the recipient in launching an arts or culture related career.

Métis Mobility Program

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Métis Mobility Program. This Program helps Métis individuals who are unemployed, about to become unemployed, or who have few possibilities of employment locally secure full time permanent employment in other regions and localities. The maximum assistance allotment for the Program is $2,000.

Costs that can be covered through this Program include:

  • Transportation
  • Meals
  • Overnight accommodations

Métis Self-Employment Program

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Métis Self-Employment Program. This Program offers participants the skills and support necessary to develop a business plan, start a small business, and sustain their business activities. The Program also provides funds and support to assist clients with mentorship, coaching, and ongoing technical advice. Coaching that is offered through the Program will be tailored to the individual’s needs and can include business plan development, accounting, marketing, computer skills, and access to self-employment support services. In order to be eligible for this Program applicants must be Métis individuals who are either unemployed, under-employed, or whose employment is at risk due to labour market changes, insufficient employment skills, or certification.

Support is available for new businesses and existing businesses that are struggling to remain viable. For existing businesses support and training can be provided to help to ensure the viability of the business by helping with marketing, technology, and training costs. Businesses can be sole proprietorship or partnerships. In the case of a partnership the applicant must own at least 50% of the business and should be able to make a minimum 25% investment in the business in either cash or equity. During the Program participants will be required to submit monthly progress reports and financial information.
