The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to offer the Post-Secondary Education Tutoring Program. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact on in person learning supports, the MNO has partnered with Tutor Ocean, a dedicated global online tutoring platform, to provide citizens with access to thousands of qualified tutors to support them while they are enrolled in Post-Secondary Education up until March 31, 2024. To qualify for the MNO Post-Secondary Education Tutoring Program applicants must:

  • Currently be a Métis student attending or accepted into an accredited post-secondary program at a recognized Canadian University or College. Grade 12 students looking for academic support will be considered on a case by case basis
  • Be an MNO citizen with a complete file or has a letter of eligibility from the MNO Registry (for more information on MNO Citizenship policies and MNO Registry click here.) 
  • Reside in Canada

Successful applicants will be contacted directly by Tutor Ocean and provided with details on how to log into their funded user accounts. For more information on this Program please see the FAQ section below. Please direct any questions to psesupport@metisnation.org

It depends, if you are receiving other supports for your current Post-Secondary Education program from the MNO please reach out to psesupport@metisnation.org 

After your application has been approved, you will be notified by the MNO and receive an email directly from Tutor Ocean providing you with unique log in details and instructions on how to use the service.

Each successful applicant will have a unique account created that will be funded with $300 that can be used at the discretion of each student.

Applicants will be notified when their account balance is under $100. At this point applicants are encouraged to contact psesupport@metisnation.org to see if there is additional funding available. If so, additional funding can be added to your account. In the event that there is no additional funding available from the MNO, it is possible for individuals to continue using this service at their own cost.

In an effort to utilize all available funding, the MNO and Tutor Ocean will regularly review account balances and connect with any account holder whose account has been dormant, or unused, for a period greater than 2 months. If these accounts remain inactive, the MNO and Tutor Ocean reserve the right to recover these funds and reallocate them to other clients.

Clients of this service will have access to a pool of thousands of qualified tutors across numerous subject areas. Clients are free to select the tutor that best suits their individual needs. Support in tutor selection will be provided by Tutor Ocean.

Boasting a global pool of tutors Tutor Ocean sessions can be accessed at any time that works for the clients including throughout the day, evening, weekends and holidays.

Tutoring rates are set by individual tutors and as such can vary. Clients are free to select their own tutors and utilize their account balance of $300 at their discretion.

Tutor Ocean will assist clients in identifying tutors for assistance with a subject based sessions or sessions that focus on general academic skills.
