Toronto & York Region Métis Council and MNO Region 8 host holiday lunch
Event Turned a Winter Day into a Celebration of Community

Heavy snowfall and cold temperatures didn’t stop Métis citizens and community members from gathering for the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Toronto & York Region Métis Council (TYRMC) and Region 8 Holiday Lunch held at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto.

The event began late Sunday morning with dot art, Get to know you Bingo, and Métis vendor displays. Attendees also had the chance to connect with the Advocacy team to learn more about the valuable programs and services offered by the MNO.

To kick off the event, guests gathered for opening remarks from TYRMC Programs & Communications Coordinator Atika Irvine-Tench and TYRMC President Amie Therrien. The National Anthem was sung by MNO employee Conlin Delbaere-Sawchuk, followed by an opening prayer delivered by TYRMC Senator Paul Irvine.

“It’s been so great to see many new and familiar faces today as we gather for our Holiday Lunch,” says TYRMC President Amie Therrien. “During these winter months, it is especially important to gather as a community as it brings warmth and comfort, and reassures us that we support one another through every season.”

The event proceeded with musical performances and jigging by Paul Irvine, Conlin Delbaere-Sawchuk, and Atika Irvine-Tench. As attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Hudson Bernard from My Chef Toronto, Conlin performed two breathtaking performances of songs attributed to Louis Riel: La Métis and Chanson De Riel.

The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Council President Therrein and a wide distribution of door prizes, wrapping up a memorable gathering.
