MNO representatives join Indigenous leaders at Third Annual Global Summit

Representatives from the Métis Nation of Ontario joined Métis leaders and Indigenous representatives from around the world in Ottawa on September 9 and 10 for the Métis National Council’s Third Annual Global Summit.

This year’s summit focused on Indigenous-led solutions for building a more sustainable and equitable future. It provided a space to connect Métis Nation priorities with global conversations on sustainable development, Indigenous rights, and international cooperation.

Over two days, participants from around the world, including from as far away as the Philippines and Aotearoa / New Zealand, explored topics such as Indigenous data sovereignty and artificial intelligence, housing, renewable energy and energy sovereignty, food sovereignty, economic development, and intergenerational knowledge sharing.

MNO representatives attending the summit included President Margaret Froh, Chair Sharon Cadeau, PCMNO Councillors Mitch Case, Theresa Stenlund and Kathleen Anderson, Senator Steve Callaghan, CEO Dale Leclair, Chief Strategy Officer Paul Robitaille, and Chief Operating Officer Brian Black. Councillors Case and Stenlund also serve as co-Provincial Secretaries for Métis Rights, Inter-Governmental Relations and Communications and Councillor Anderson serves as the Provincial Secretary for Economic Development and Government Infrastructure.

Dale Leclair moderated one of the keynote sessions, and Councillor Case delivered opening remarks alongside Métis National Council President Victoria Pruden and Otipemisiwak Métis Government President Andrea Sandmaier.

The MNO thanks the Métis National Council for bringing together Indigenous leaders, experts, and partners for two days of dialogue, relationship-building, and shared learning.

Collaboration between Métis governments remains important. Extending that spirit beyond Canada’s borders also creates opportunities to share knowledge, build relationships, and support Indigenous Peoples around the world.
