Attend a virtual presentation on the Métis Experience in Residential Schools Research Project

Findings reported in a 2012 report issued by The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada stated that the Métis experience of Residential Schooling has been overlooked and that many stories remain untold. The Métis Experience in Residential Schools Research Project (MERSRP), led by the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), seeks to fill that gap through a process grounded in Métis ways of knowing, community engagement, and a deep commitment to truth-telling and healing.

Starting in March, the team will host a series of virtual presentations to introduce the project and share how you can get involved. Presentations will be held regionally, lasting about an hour, and with opportunities to ask questions directly to researchers.

Virtual presentations are currently scheduled for:

Huron–Superior Regional Métis Community (Region 4), March 30, 2026 from 6:30–8:30p.m. EDT. Region 4 citizens can register here.

More presentations will be scheduled and announced on the project website (MERSRP.ca) at a later date.

Interviews will take place over the coming months with individuals who have lived or intergenerational knowledge of Métis experiences in Residential, Day, or Industrial Schools across Canada. Know History, a firm specializing in Indigenous and Indian Residential Schools Research and interviews has been hired to support this work.
