Building a Brighter Future
Thunder Bay Indigenous Youth Transition House

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is proud to be a part of a groundbreaking project assisting Indigenous youth in Thunder Bay. A transitional housing project, built by Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services and managed by the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, Ontario Native Women’s Association, and MNO, is already underway and on target for completion by January 2026.
The project will provide safe and supportive housing for unhoused or at-risk urban Indigenous youth aged 18 to 29 (with possible extension to 34 years of age when graduating between stages). Along with shelter, the centre will offer 58-units with 24-hour support, case management, and access to culturally grounded justice and wellness programming. These services will help youth navigate challenges such as addiction and mental health, paving the way toward stability and independence.
The programming aspect of Stage 2 of the project will be led by the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), which will manage thirty(30) 1-bedroom units, provide housing-based supports, cultural programming and life skills development, building on its proven history of delivering high-quality, culturally relevant programs and services. With decades of experience supporting Métis and other Indigenous youth across Ontario, the MNO will continue to guide participants as they transition to independent living.
The MNO values community-driven partnerships and is proud to collaborate on initiatives that create meaningful change. Working together with local organizations strengthens culturally safe support systems and reflects the shared commitment to advancing opportunities, resilience, and well-being for Indigenous youth.
