This November, we invite Métis across Ontario to come together in honouring the courage and sacrifice of the visionary Métis leader, Louis Riel. The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to share a variety of events planned throughout the province to honour his legacy and celebrate Métis culture and community. Join us in reflecting on Riel’s enduring impact on Métis rights and identity, and his vision for a strong and vibrant future nation for all Métis people. How will you be honouring Louis Riel Day? Louis Riel Day Event

  • Date: Wednesday, November 12th at 7:00PM EST
  • Location: Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library
  • Details: Join us for a lively evening as we dive into Canada’s cultural tapestry and celebrate Riel’s legacy. Learn about the Métis leader and rights champion with a presentation, activities, and snack spread. No registration required. 
 

Thursday , November 13th

Letters to Louis: Writing Workshop

  • Date: Thursday, November 13th at 4:00 – 5:00PM EST
  • Location:Youth Wellness Hub: 124 Dennis Street, Sault Ste. Marie
  • Details: Join the Métis Family Wellbeing and the Métis Healthy Babies Health Children program for a reflective session on Louis Riel’s life and legacy. After exploring his legacy, participants will create a personal piece of writing–such as a letter, poem, journal entry, or picture—addressed to Riel. Open to youth ages 12-18 and children ages 0-6. Louis Riel Day 2025 Métis Sash Keychains

Clear Waters Métis Council Louis Riel Day Event

Thames Bluewater Métis Council

  • Location: 1100 Dearness Dr., Unit 19, London, Ontario
  • Details: Join the Thames Bluewater Métis Council for this hybrid event to celebrate Louis Riel Day, with both virtual and in person activities planned. If you would like to attend virtually, please contact Melissa Wojciechowski by November 7.

Thunder Bay and District Métis Council Louis Riel Day Celebration and Community Feast

  • Location: Fort William Historical Park, 1350 King Rd., Thunder Bay
  • Details: Thunder Bay Métis Council is hosting a Community Feast and Celebration for Louis Riel Day on November 15 from 1-6pm at Old Fort William. Louis Riel Day Celebration

  • Details: Join us for our Louis Riel Day Celebration and participate in activities for all ages, including a Louis Riel photo booth, Bingo, axe throwing, finger weaving, arts and crafts, and more!   • Details: Join us on Monday, November 17, 2025, as the MNO and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario commemorate Louis Riel Day with a special flag-raising ceremony at Queen’s Park. This annual event brings together leadership and members of the community in honoring the legacy of the great Métis leader, and celebrating the courage, sacrifices and contributions of the Métis people to Canada.Event highlights include remarks from invited dignitaries, provincial leadership and MNO representatives, as well as the ceremonial wreath-laying and a moment of silence. All are encouraged to attend and show support!
