Métis Citizens trade sashes for shovels at Tree Planting event in the Soo

Citizens from the Huron-Superior Regional Métis Community (MNO Region 4) came together with the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority and REGEN for a tree planting event, combining community spirit with environmental stewardship to help stabilize a slope on conservation land.

In late September, participants in the MNO’s Forests for the Futureprogram planted 150 native trees to stabilize a slope and protect the land from future erosion. The day also included a community clean-up, with volunteers removing litter and restoring the space for everyone to enjoy.

“This event was a fantastic example of what can be accomplished when community members and partner organizations come together with a common goal,” says Camille Chouinard, MNO Environment Advisor. “The trees we planted will help protect the land and enhance biodiversity for years to come.”

The event marks the beginning of a series of community planting initiatives to come in each of the regions. Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to get involved and help grow a healthier, more sustainable future.
