MNO Releases Community Report on Mobility Disabilities

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) has released its Community Report “Paths to Accessibility: Understanding the Needs of MNO Citizens Living with Mobility Disabilities.”Conducted in partnership with MNO Healing & Wellness, research partners and ICES, the report highlights what citizens shared about the challenges they face and how the MNO can better support them.

To gather input, the MNO used a multi-phase approach. A robocall survey reached over 33,000 households in September 2024. Of the 1,770 people who responded, 716 reported someone in their home had a mobility disability. From there, 230 citizens completed a follow-up survey.

Participants shared challenges such as chronic pain, accessibility barriers, and trouble with daily tasks. They identified priorities like safe and accessible housing, better transportation, home maintenance help, and financial support for mobility devices and medical costs. Many also emphasized the need for peer support, mental health services, jobs, and more accessible MNO events.

This report will guide the MNO’s efforts to improve inclusion, accessibility, and services for citizens with mobility disabilities.
