The MNO’s 32nd Annual General Assembly in the Media

Earlier this month, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) held its 32nd Annual General Assembly (AGA) in the scenic and historically significant community of Sault Ste. Marie. Once a vibrant Métis river lot settlement, the area was home to families such as the Boissonneaus, Mirons, Labattes, Cadottes, Nolins, and Lesages, who helped shape trade networks across the historic Northwest. This year’s AGA was especially significant, marking milestones in the MNO’s ongoing journey toward self-government.
 
Highlights included the official passage and launch of the Powley Institute, Ontario’s first Métis-focused education and research institute, introduced during the Soirée in the Soo benefit concert. Delegates also advanced discussions on self-government, including progress toward a draft constitution.
