Candidate for Vice Chair

Sharon Cadeau, Candidate for Vice Chair

It was in 1999 that Sharon first learned of her Metis ancestry. She has been at the forefront of advancing Métis rights and prosperity ever since. Growing up in a proud military family, Sharon has lived in Germany, Nova Scotia and Ontario.

Her Métis roots can be traced back to Penetanguishene.
In 2001 Sharon became the Regional Women’s Representative for Region Eight. Sharon advocated for a
Community Council in the western part of Region Eight and became the founding President of the Credit River Métis Council in 2003. In 2005 she was elected as Regional Councillor for Region Eight.

From 2006 to 2020, Sharon has held the Portfolio for Women, and has been Spokesperson for the Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council where her focus has been on securing funding to carry out the important advocacy and public awareness of the Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council. In 2016 Sharon was able to secure three years of funding from the Status of Women from the Government of Canada. This was the first time, in history, that a Métis Women’s project was funded. In 2019 the Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council won the Ontario Heritage Trust Award for the Leadership Gathering that was held April 2019. Sharon was honoured with being the first recipient of the Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council Award for outstanding contributions for Métis Women in Ontario.

Sharon is serving her fourth term as Vice Chair of the Provisional Council of the MNO (PCMNO). Over the years she has been involved in numerous projects and committees, ensuring the voice of the Métis Nation is heard throughout the province. Sharon is very proud that all our hard work, throughout the years, has paid off with the signing of our Self Government Agreement with the Government of Canada. Our ancestors would be very proud of us today with everything we have achieved. After 32 years as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer she has finely hung up her badge and is excited to be able to focus on the building of our Nation in Ontario.
