From August 16- 18, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Métis Summer Youth Cultural Program (SYCP) students connected with their roots and got back to the basics at the Wasaga Under Siege re-enactment.

Camped out for three days, the group dressed in traditional Métis attire, cooked traditional Métis meals over an open fire and shared Métis traditional dances, games and arts with all.

Designed to strengthen and share Métis culture and history, MNO SYCP is a community based initiative comprised of students that deliver Métis culture and history programs to community groups throughout the summer. This summer’s project focuses on creating greater awareness of the contributions of Métis in the War of 1812 by making appearances during the Tall Ships 1812 tour. The group will also be making an appearance at the MNO AGA this week.
