About the Urban Indigenous Action Plan
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC), and the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) have been working in partnership with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) to develop an Urban Indigenous Action Plan for the province of Ontario.
The Action Plan is intended to be an overarching framework that guides approaches, policies and actions in the province of Ontario, formalizing the engagement and co-development processes currently under way that have included Indigenous partners in an effective, substantive and meaningful way. In 2015, consultations were held with Indigenous and non-Indigenous service providers and other community organizations across Ontario to inform the initial development of the Action Plan. The MNO, OFIFC, ONWA, and MIRR are once again seeking feedback via community engagement and online submissions for this phase of work.
The Urban Indigenous Action Plan Discussion Paper, available online, is the result of what has been heard to date about how the Action Plan can address the complex socio-economic issues and priorities of urban Indigenous communities across the province. This Discussion Paper outlines the proposed foundational elements and direction for the Action Plan and includes questions for discussion and consideration by communities and organizations at the end of the document.
