The Métis Nation of Ontario is pleased once again this year to provide opportunities for summer employment to Métis students who qualify.
OTTAWA, ON —– The Métis Nation of Ontario is pleased once again this year to provide opportunities for summer employment to Métis students who qualify. The MNO Summer Career Placement (SCP) is a wage subsidy program designed to assist Métis students in obtaining beneficial and relevant summer employment.
Not only designed to benefit students, the program also aims to benefit employers. Businesses in the private, public and non-profit sectors create job opportunities for Métis youth are eligible to receive wage subsidy and/or Mandatory Employer Related Costs (MERC). The program provides greater on-the-job experience for students, helping them to become valuable assets to the workforce.
Priority is given to placements that are: cost-shared by SCP employers, related to a student’s career aspirations, involve an Aboriginal community or organization, have community support and/or demonstrate strong initiative from the student. As well, priority is given to Métis owned businesses and placements that address the special needs of Métis youth.
As per funding criteria, these opportunities are available exclusively to Métis students. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30, currently in school and returning to school in the fall of 2010. All applicants must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).
Applicants must forward a completed SCP package to their Regional MNOET office by May 15th at 5 p.m. Applications will then be reviewed by the Regional Advisory Committee based on eligibility criteria, priority areas and budget limitations.
The earliest start date for post-secondary students interested in SCP is June 1, 2010, for a placement lasting a maximum of 13 weeks. The earliest start date for secondary school students is July 6, 2010, lasting a maximum of 8 weeks. These dates are negotiable under special circumstances but all placements must end prior to September 1, 2010.
