As part of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO)’s efforts to develop a mobile Registry initiative for a future province-wide roll-out, the MNO is holding a series of Genealogical Workshops in Kenora, Dryden, Atikokan and Fort Frances to assist individuals with completing MNO Citizenship and Harvester Certificate applications. The MNO has retained Know History to help organize and run the
workshops.
At these workshops, you can access MNO genealogical resources and receive assistance with completing your MNO Citizenship and Harvester Certificate applications. Please mark your calendar and attend one of the sessions listed below. Given that there is a limited amount of available appointments for the
Genealogical Workshops, please register in advance by contacting Heather Perrault at 613-700-8677 or heather@knowhistory.ca
Each community visit will kick off with a Pre-Workshop Information Meeting where we will explain what information is available and the registration process. Everyone is invited to attend, and registration is not required for the information meeting.
If you are applying for MNO Citizenship, please remember to bring the following with you:
1. Documents that establish your residency in Ontario. Please bring ONE of the following sets of documents:
• A copy of your Ontario Photo Card or your driver’s license ; OR
• A copy of your valid passport AND a piece of mail from an institution, service provider, municipality or province (i.e. bank statement, utilities bill, tax notice, rental/lease agreement, insurance, etc.) that shows your name and home address.
2. Documents that prove your parentage and Canadian citizenship. Please bring ONE of the following sets of documents:
• A copy of your long form birth certificate; OR
• A copy of your baptismal certificate (must be printed on church letterhead, signed, and include an official seal) AND a copy of your Passport; OR
• A copy of your baptismal certificate (must be printed on church letterhead, signed, and include an official seal) AND a copy of your short form birth certificate (the wallet card).
3. Any other family record(s) linking you to your parents, grandparents or other family members.
4. A one time, non-refundable administration processing fee in the amount of $30.00 (cheque or money order made payable to the Métis Nation of Ontario)
If you are applying for a MNO Harvester Certificate, please remember to bring the following with you:
1. Proof of MNO Citizenship (Citizenship # or card);
2. Demonstrable proof of sufficient knowledge of firearms safety. Please bring ONE of the following:
An Ontario Outdoors Card (hunting), Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), Possession Only License (POL), or Canadian Firearms Safety Course Certificate number;
3. A passport photo if your Citizenship card is more than three years old;
4. Non-refundable $60 administration fee (cheque or money order made payable to the Métis Nation of Ontario).
Also, please bring historic family bibles, records and photos which will help the MNO tell the histories of its Métis families!
