2016 Census pamphletThe National Aboriginal 2016 census pamphlet.

Every five years, Canada conducts a Census Program, a project that provides a statistical portrait of the country. In 2016, the Census Program will begin gathering information in May.

Census data is used to help planning and decision making for Canadian citizens. For Aboriginal communities, census data is used to develop school and Aboriginal language programs, establish and expand community health and social programs, make informed decisions on employment, community development plans, training and economic opportunites, and to evaluate existing programs and new service needs such as housing.

Any personal information provided for the Census Program is protected by the Statistics Act and kept strictly confidential.

Additionally, the Census Program provides employment opportunities within Canadian communities. Employment periods vary between February and July 2016, depending on the location of the assignment.
