The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is excited to announce a new program for Métis youth in grades 7 to 10: the Métis Early Learning Babysitter’s Club. This program equips youth to become certified babysitters while offering opportunities to explore Métis culture and traditions.

Participants will learn essential skills for delivering quality child care at home, including child development basics, age-appropriate cultural activities, and tips for safely advertising babysitting services online. Guided by Registered Early Childhood Educators, they will complete babysitter training along with virtual first aid and CPR certification. All program costs are fully covered by the MNO.

The program offers a mix of guided and self-directed learning for a flexible and engaging experience. Youth will join virtual sessions to connect with others, ask questions, and join discussions. They will also complete self-paced online modules to build their knowledge and skills. After finishing, participants will get a certificate and a Babysitter’s Club kit.

To be eligible, participants must be Métis Nation of Ontario Citizens (or have one parent who is), reside in Ontario, and be in grades 7, 8, 9, or 10. Internet access and a device for Zoom are required, as the program is entirely virtual. Applicants should also have an interest in learning about Métis history and culture from an early learning perspective.

Applications for the Métis Early Learning Babysitter’s Club are open from October 28 to December 4, 2024.

Don’t miss this chance to gain valuable skills, certifications, and a stronger connection to Métis culture.
