LOCAL HERO: MNO citizen inducted into North Bay Sports Hall of Fame
A small community just outside North Bay is celebrating one of its own: Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen Isabelle Sauve. Born and raised in Astorville, East Ferris Township, and now residing in Perth, ON, this remarkable athlete was recently inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame.
“Being inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame was meaningful and special to me,” shared Isabelle. “I recall, for years, looking at previous inductees on the wall at the Memorial Garden Centre with admiration, never imagining I would one day be named.”
Isabelle also appreciates this moment for the opportunity it provided to celebrate with friends and family who have supported her through her various endeavors. Her past induction into the Perth Sports Hall of Fame and the East Ferris Sports Hall of Fame, where she discovered her passion for running and challenges, further cemented her legacy in the communities.
Among her many accomplishments, Isabelle takes the most pride in winning the 4 Deserts – Racing the Planet series. This grueling event spans over 1000 kilometers through some of the world’s harshest conditions and terrains.
“One slight error such as improper nutrition can cost you the entire race and series,” Isabelle explained. “Each section of the event hinges on the proper management and execution of the race plans as well as the proper handling of the unpredictable incidents that invariably come up.”
“Each day must be carefully navigated based on a number of factors such as terrain, length, weather, previous performance, and goals for example. Thankfully everything worked out for me!”
Isabelle attributes her determination and resilience to her Métis heritage, emphasizing lessons learned from her father during frequent fishing and hunting trips. “My determination and grit is definitely deeply seeded in my Métis roots. From a young age, I was taught that if you are going to do something, you should do it well and to the best of your abilities,” she said.
She also recalls growing up with strong Métis values, learning about nature, animals, fishing, and hunting from a young age. These teachings have made her resilient and resourceful, traits that have helped her succeed in her athletic pursuits.
For aspiring Métis athletes, her advice is clear: “Make commitments regarding your goals to yourself and for yourself and stick to them. Set achievable incremental smaller targets towards larger goals. Steadily you will be closer and closer to your ultimate goal.”
The MNO applauds Isabelle for her determination and her very well deserved induction into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame!
