City-of-Toronto-LRD-flag-2020

On Wednesday, the Province of Ontario accepted Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa’s recommendation to place the city of Toronto in the Red–Control category of its colour-coded system for COVID-19 restrictions. These new public health measures took effect on Saturday and last for the next 28 days.

Due to these increased measures and the advice of Toronto Public Health, the planned in-person Louis Riel Day flag raising ceremonies was cancelled.

The City of Toronto did still raise the Métis flag and will fly it for the day. The City of Toronto photographer took this photo to share with the community. Mayor Tory issued a Riel Day proclamation and posted a video message to honour Louis Riel Day.

Many thanks to Mayor Tory and the City of Toronto for continuing this proud and long-standing Riel Day tradition.

Until we can gather again.
