Métis Nation of Ontario Announces New Justice and Legal Education Bursary Program

A new grant from The Law Foundation of Ontario (the Foundation) will help Ontario Métis learners pursue law-related education and careers in Ontario’s legal and justice sectors.

The funding, from the Foundation’s national Access to Justice Fund, will enable the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) to reduce financial barriers for Ontario Métis post-secondary students enrolled in eligible programs, including Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM), Paralegal, Law Clerk, and Justice Studies, and Gladue Principal training, at any recognized institution in Canada.

This is part of a larger commitment by the Foundation to reduce barriers to justice and law-related studies for Indigenous students from across Canada. Similar grants to other Indigenous-led organizations will support bursary programs for First Nations and Inuit students, and for Métis students from outside Ontario. Through this investment, the Foundation will support the next generation of Ontario Métis legal professionals, justice advocates, and leaders while helping strengthen the inclusion of Métis voices within Ontario’s legal sector.

Eligible Métis learners will be able to apply directly through the MNO, who will manage, administer, and award the bursaries, with funding determined by program of study and available program funding. Bursaries will offset the costs of tuition, program-specific expenses, travel, and living expenses for students.
