On May 17, 2017, Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) staff in Ottawa hosted a Community Kitchen Workshop teaching 15 participants the traditional food preservation method of water bath canning.

All participants enjoyed learning how to make and preserve strawberry jam. Each participant took home a jar of jam for their family to enjoy. The rest of the jam preserves that the participants made were donated to the Ottawa MNO’s emergency food cupboard for clients who are experiencing food insecurity.
