Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen Lawrence Waxy Gregoire is ready to release a new book on the history of the Penetang Hurons Junior ‘C’ hockey franchise.

After working for years in mental health services, Gregoire, a hockey historian, is retired and lives in Penetanguishene. From 2006 until 2016, he served on the Penetanguishene Sports Hall of Fame Board, and he’s currently the Regional Vice-President for the Society for International Hockey Research in Ontario.

This is Gregoire’s fifth book. His previous titles include: Heart of the Blackhawks; The Red Kelly Story, co-written with David Dupuis; Montreal Canadiens – Winners of the first Stanley Cup; and Dynamite Twins.

The Red Kelly Story received the Legislative Assembly of Ontario’s Speaker’s Book Award last year. The award is handed out to authors who write about the province’s culture, history and residents.

The official book launch is planned for July 20, onboard the Miss Midland boat. It coincides with the 60th anniversary celebration of the now defunct team, which had its first season in 1958.
