MNO Congratulates MNA on the Election of Andrea Sandmaier, New President-elect
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) extends heartfelt congratulations to the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) on the successful election of Andrea Sandmaier as the new President-elect.
The democratic process that has led to President-elect Sandmaier assuming this significant responsibility is a testament to the strength of the Métis governance system in Alberta and the dedication of MNA citizens to shaping the future of their Nation.
The turnout in this year’s election proves that MNA citizens are actively engaged in this process and committed to re-establishing themselves as Otipemisiwak, a people who truly govern themselves.
“The MNO has had a longstanding history with the MNA, and we look forward to working alongside President-elect Sandmaier to advance the rights and interests of all Métis peoples,” said MNO President Margaret Froh. “We know that President-elect Sandmaier will serve, with distinction, the interests and well-being of the Métis people in Alberta.”
This election also marks the MNA’s transition to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, making this a historic election for the advancement of Métis self-government! We are confident that under her leadership, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government will continue to make significant contributions to the Métis Nation as a whole.
The MNO would also like to express its sincere appreciation to former MNA President Audrey Poitras for her leadership and vision during a truly historic time in Métis rights and reconciliation. Under President Poitras’ leadership, the MNA signed its historic self-government agreement with Canada and ratified its Constitution, both monumental achievements.
Congratulations to all those who put their names forward to run in this historic election. The MNO looks forward to continuing its collaborative relationship with the incoming Otipemisiwak Métis Government in Alberta.
