MNO Urban Portage Walking Challenge:
Meet the 2024 Champions

The numbers are in!

As the third annual Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Urban Portage Walking Challenge comes to a close, we extend our appreciation to all MNO champions and citizens who stepped up—literally! From September until December, we saw a continuing show of Métis spirit, health, and determination from citizens across the province!

We are pleased to officially announce the 2024 Urban Portage Walking Challenge winners. While all of our communities performed admirably this year, one proved to be a step above the rest.

Please join us in congratulating returning champion Kenora, who reclaimed the top title with an awe-inspiring 30,093,153 steps! Kenora will be walking away with a neat $1,000.00 to host a community celebration event, along with an office banner declaring Kenora as the 2024 Annual Urban Portage Champions!

A very special shout-out also goes to this year’s runner ups:

Second place – Atikokan/Fort Frances (with 16,721,266 steps) and

Third place – Bandcroft (with 13,296,737 steps)

For their outstanding efforts in stepping up, both communities will also receive funds to host their own celebration events.

To everyone who participated, whether you took a few steps or thousands, your involvement was essential! Your hard work has inspired community pride, promoted physical and mental wellness, and encouraged Métis citizens to get outside and connect with the land.

Thank you for making this year’s Urban Portage Walking Challenge another unforgettable adventure. We can’t wait to see you lace up your shoes for next year’s challenge. Together, let’s aspire to even higher!
