PCMNO Meeting Recap
December 11, 2024

The Provisional Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO) convened on December 11, 2024, in a
hybrid format, with in-person attendance at the Lord Elgin Hotel, 100 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.

President Froh provided an update on recent organizational activities and priorities, highlighting
discussions with federal and provincial representatives aimed at advancing self-governance agreements
and emphasizing Métis rights. She also shared updates on newly secured funding for critical programs,
including the expansion of Métis-specific housing initiatives and new education bursaries for Métis
youth. Plans to strengthen collaboration with Community Councils through training programs and a
standardized governance toolkit were outlined, along with goals for the 2025 Annual General Assembly
(AGA), focused on increasing community participation and enriching cultural programming.

The Health Equity initiative was introduced as a program designed to provide equitable health benefits
to Métis citizens, regardless of income level. In addition, the accessibility needs of the Burk’s Falls camp
were reviewed, with a motion approved to undertake repairs and rehabilitation to meet AODA
requirements.

Community Council governance updates addressed clerical revisions to governing documents, including
correcting formatting inconsistencies, updating outdated references, and aligning bylaws with current
standards. Community Relations will continue working with Councils to support these updates.
A motion was passed to offer Community Councils the option to adopt Metisnation.org email addresses,
enhancing security and professional communication. Members stressed the need for IT support and
training during the transition process.

A debrief on the 2024 AGA showcased successes such as increased participation, the “Camping under
the Stars” event, the Gala Dinner, and streamlined sessions. However, concerns were raised about
accessibility, logistical challenges, catering issues, and volunteer shortages. Recommendations for the
2025 AGA in Sault Ste. Marie included incorporating weather-controlled spaces to enhance comfort and
accessibility, improving transportation and signage, and expanding cultural programming to reflect
Métis diversity. Members were encouraged to provide additional feedback to guide future planning.
President Froh concluded the meeting by summarizing the organization’s upcoming priorities and plans.

The next PCMNO meeting is scheduled to take place on January 16-17, 2025.
