Emily Paterson, Director of Community Wellbeing, provided an update on the Métis Perspectives on Suicide Intervention project, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The project aims to develop a culturally grounded suicide prevention model, build capacity through a train-the-trainer program, and gather community input through in-person sharing circles. Weaving Wellness is leading mental health support, ICES is assisting with research, and a literature review is nearing completion. Sessions will prioritize ethical protocols, youth engagement, and participant support.
Regional engagement planning will proceed in collaboration with Council members. Engagement sessions will be planned for spring and summer 2025. Project completion is required by March 31, 2026.
