Senator Gilbert Gervais, 1928-2010
Of late, I have been delivering far too much sad news. Even while our MNO Family is in mourning for Todd Saulnier, the husband of Pauline Saulnier, Jaye Peterson Wass, the daughter-in-law of JoAnne Wass and Senator Helen Bradley, we learned on Saturday of the passing of Senator Gilbert Gervais.
Senator Gervais was one of the MNO’s founding Senators and he served from the beginning of the MNO until 2005. He was also for many years the Region 3 Captain of the Hunt. His dedication to the Métis cause was well-known and respected throughout the Métis Nation, as was his passion for advancing Métis rights. Senator Gervais was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and he worked for twenty years as a Road Construction Supervisor with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Senator Gervais passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the age of 82. He was predeceased by his wife Jeannette, his brother Don, his sister Doreen and by his son-in-law David Martin. He is survived by his companion Jeannine, his siblings Edmore, Emery and Gail, his children Glenn and Brenda, his grandchildren Jamie, Jason and Jeffrey, and his great grandchildren Jessica, Madison and Hunter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 27 at 10:30 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society will be greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 26 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at LESSARD- STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME.
