This 2-hour Speakers Series webinar can help create a compassionate understanding of why some youth and adults struggle with substance use. With a holistic understanding of this complex issue, a pathway for healing for all family members becomes clearer. We will explore the spectrum of substance use, how problematic substance use develops, strength-based interventions and the role family members and community can play in restoring health and balance.

Matt Young, B.A., R.P., MSc. Mental Health Psychology (Cand.) and Amanda Neilson, CYW, MSW, RSW are counselors with Rideauwood Addiction and Family Service – a community-based treatment centre operating in Ottawa for more than 40 years. Dedicated to supporting those impacted by substance use, behavioral addictions and related mental health challenges, the organization serves youth, young adults, adults and families. Rideauwood runs over 15 comprehensive programs that include prevention, education, individual and group treatment.
