Swinging into The MNO AGA with the 2025 We Aspire Golf Tournament

The spirit of community and celebration was in full swing at the 2025 We Aspire Golf Tournament fundraiser held at the scenic Silver Creek Golf Course in Garden River, Ontario.
Hosted by the MNO as a fundraiser for the Powley Institute, the tournament brought together over 50 golfers from across Ontario for a day of friendly competition, community connection, and shared purpose.

The Powley Institute is the first facility in the province to host Métis-led research, cultural preservation, and education on Métis history and way of life. Named in honour of Steve and Roddy Powley—whose courage and determination in the landmark Supreme Court case R. v. Powley helped secure constitutional recognition of Métis rights in Canada—the Institute stands as a tribute to their legacy and to the strength, sacrifice, and persistence of all those who came before them.

“This tournament is about raising funds and awareness to support the development of the Powley Institute here in the beautiful Sault Ste. Marie,” said Mitch Case Regional Councillor, Huron-Superior Regional Métis Community and MNO Provincial Secretary for Education, “The Powley Institute is a promise to future generations that Métis stories will be told, our culture celebrated, and our history never forgotten.”

The morning began with a warm welcome and opening remarks, followed by a shotgun start as teams set off on their round of 18 holes. Under sunny skies, the teams followed the course with energy and enthusiasm, many sporting fun accessories and team colours. The tournament featured hole challenges, prize draws, and a special tee gift for each participant.

After the tournament, golfers gathered for a community dinner at the clubhouse where stories, laughter, and recognition filled the air. Tournament awards were presented, sponsors were acknowledged, and special thanks were given to the many volunteers who helped make the fundraiser possible.

The We Aspire tournament serves as both a fundraiser and a way to celebrate togetherness and unity. As the AGA continues throughout the week, this year’s tournament has set high spirits for the days ahead.
