Upcoming MNO Webinar:
Charter Rights: Your Rights at Search and Seizure
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is hosting a virtual webinar on “Charter Rights: Your Rights at Search and Seizure” on September 11, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM EST to help MNO citizens better understand their rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
This session will offer a detailed overview of your protections under Section 8 of the Charter, which guards against unreasonable search and seizure.
The webinar will address key questions such as:
- What protections do you have under Section 8?
- Under what circumstances can police search you, your property, or your belongings?
- How far can law enforcement go in their search?
These questions will be answered, along with a discussion of landmark court rulings that have shaped our understanding of search and seizure laws in Canada.
Our guest speaker for this event is Robert Barber, a licensed paralegal and the CEO of Prevail Paralegal Services Professional Corporation, the largest paralegal firm in the Niagara Region. Robert is also an MNO citizen and serves as a Councillor on the Niagara Region Métis Council.
