jade stem cellJade (left) spending some time seeing the sights in Ottawa. At only eight years old, Jade was diagnosed with leukemia. Due to her illness, Jade travelled from Timmins to Ottawa in order to receive treatment. Doctors discovered that a stem cell transplant is the ultimate treatment for her condition.

Unfortunately, there are no matches within Jade’s family for a stem cell transplant and she requires an unrelated donor. Jade is of Métis and Chinese ancestry and she’s reaching out to both communities for their help.

Jade hopes a donor will be found through the OneMatch program so she can go back to being healthy and living back home with her family and be a regular kid again.

The OneMatch program allows for donors to register online through www.blood.ca. The Canadian Blood Services will send out a swab kit with a return envelope to send back a sample for testing.

In order to register, you should be between 17 to 35 years of age, in general good health, willing and available for all patients in need and have Canadian Health Coverage.
