As directed by a 2010 Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Annual General Assembly (AGA) resolution, the MNO conducted a series of Métis Identification and Registry Consultations in 26 communities across Ontario. These meetings represented Phase I of a two part process outlined in the AGA motion. Well over one thousand MNO citizens participated in Phase I and their views were compiled in a “What We Heard” Report that was circulated to all Community Councils, distributed at the 2011 AGA and posted on the MNO Website.

Phase II of the process took place January-March 2012 with a second series of Community Consultations. During these community meetings, discussion focused on the major themes identified in the “What We Heard” Report. As well, the MNO leadership took the opportunity to listen to citizen priorities and interests on a whole host of topics such as harvesting rights, social housing, scholarships and bursaries, promoting Métis culture, economic development, healing and wellness or child and family care. It provided citizens with the chance to learn about the many exciting advances in the MNO that have brought us to where we are today.
