Welcome to MNO’s Indigenous Education Council (IEC) homepage. This site contains useful information and links for those that are interested or are already involved with IEC representation.

IECs are provincially mandated advisory committees that operate at each publicly funded District School Board (K-12) and College/University (Post-Secondary) in Ontario. IECs provide First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community members, as well as representatives from Indigenous education organizations, a way to offer their input and guidance to schools and school boards regarding the development and implementation of Indigenous initiatives. MNO Chartered Community Councils are responsible for offering IEC representation in their area. IECs are an important space where Community Councils can advocate for greater Métis inclusion in the school system and seek other reforms.

If you are interested in learning more about IECs, or think you might want to volunteer to serve as an IEC representative, please attend one of the information sessions that are hosted by MNO’s IEC Specialists.

If you have any questions, need support, or would like to report an issue, please write to iecsupport@metisnation.org
