The MNO is pleased to announce a new merit-based award for current Métis Post-Secondary Students. The Post-Secondary Education Student Achievement awards will recognize academic excellence coupled with strong involvement in Métis communities and will offer up to five awards of $ 5,000, presented at the AGA. Recipients and a guest’s attendance at the AGA will be furnished. 

Eligibility:

  1. Must be a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario.
  2. Must have been enrolled at a post-secondary institution for at least one year.
  3. Must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution for the 2026-27 academic year.
  4. Must reside in Canada.

Applications will be available from April 1, 2026, to May 1, 2026.

A panel of MNO citizens will review and score anonymized applications using a rubric.  
  • Holding positions within the MNO (youth council, Summer Youth Program, Infinite Reach Facilitator)
  • Regular participant or leader in community events (e.g. Community Council events, AGA, Indigenous Student Centre events, Indigenous student council)
  • Knowledge sharing within your Métis community (traditional arts or land-based knowledge/skills)
  • how they are culturally connected to their Métis community (activities, ceremonies, harvesting, traditional arts, celebrations, traditions, language, etc.)

The application requires submission of the latest academic transcript. GPA is the primary statistic used to measure academic achievement.

Recipients will be notified in late June, affording enough time to determine attendance at the AGA.

No. The only exception to this is those that are hired as part of the Summer Youth Program.

No, these awards are intended for students who are already enrolled in Post-Secondary Education.

Award amounts will be deposited via EFT before the AGA, with a ceremony at the AGA Gala to present and celebrate these awards with recipients. 

Yes, receipt of these awards will not impact eligibility for other PSE funding.

Yes. Students will receive a T4A form showing the amount of support paid to them.

Starting in the 2026 tax year, T4S will only be sent via digital copy.
